22/3/10. UK Horror movie SPLINTERED to feature on TV’s CORONATION STREET
Manchester UK, March 22nd 2010,
Soap fans are in for a thrill this coming Friday as spine-tingling movie Splintered, the debut feature film from Manchester-based Not A Number, is due to make an appearance on the nation’s favourite soap Coronation Street.
Appearing in both episodes on Friday 26th March, the horror movie plays a central part to the plot focusing on characters Sian and Sophie’s strained friendship. The teens arrange a double date with their fellas Ryan and Lee, where they huddle around the television to watch their DVD of choice – Splintered. As the chilling world of Splintered plays out on screen, the awkward atmosphere soon threatens to boil over – making for a thrilling phase in the storyline, which has been the topic of conversation lately for many a Corrie fan.
Commenting, director Simeon Halligan said: “I’m really chuffed Splintered plays a key role in Friday’s episode of Coronation Street. What’s ironic is that the background story in Splintered is about coming to terms with your own sexuality, which nicely echoes Corrie’s Sophie Webster as she begins to realise her own sexual identity. Having worked at Granada TV for many years myself (and actually on Corrie itself back in the nineties) it seems fitting that Splintered gets a nod on The Street before its UK release in July.”
Producer Rachel Richardson Jones was equally enthused: “It’s undoubtedly tough to compete in the UK film industry. You have to make the most of every potential plug, so we jumped at the chance to showcase Splintered on the soap. Corrie knew about our annual horror film festival Grimmfest and asked if we might have a suitable movie to show clips from. They didn’t know we’d just completed our own. It seemed a perfect tie in for us – and a great way to give horror film fans a sneak peak.”
Described by local film blogger and journalist Noel Mellor as “a fantastic piece of genre cinema that gets beneath the surface of the typical ‘teen in terror’ story”, and having already made a number of successful festival appearances, it’s hoped Splintered will put Not A Number firmly on the map when released in cinemas this July. In the meantime, movie fans will have to be satisfied with the little taster they receive next week, thanks to its appearance on The Street.
Catch a sneaky peak of Not A Number’s Splintered on Corrie at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Friday 26th March.
